Celebration of Anointing of the Sick

This sacrament is available to those who are suffering from a serious illness, to those about to have surgery, and to those who have become weaker because of age. One can receive this sacrament individually or at the communal anointing services which take place at the weekend Masses, once in the fall and once in the spring. The Anointing of the Sick used to be called Extreme Unction. This sacrament is beneficial at the beginning of a serious illness and can be repeated periodically as an illness worsens. When a person is near death, one can receive Viaticum, which is Communion accompanied by special prayers for those who are about to die. Please contact Fr. Glenn at the Parish Office (816-931-4351) if you have questions or know someone who would like to be anointed.
