Weekend Masses in the Church: Weekday Masses and Prayer in the Chapel: Morning Prayer (taken from the Liturgy of the Hours) is part of the official prayer of the Church. All Catholics are encouraged to pray the Liturgy of the Hours, which was formerly called the Breviary. Liturgy of the Hours and Centering Prayer All are invited to join the Benedictine Sisters at the Convent, 4220 Mercier, for Morning or Evening Prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours and for Centering prayer. Call 816-561-0047 for information. Preparation for First Eucharist usually occurs when children are in second grade or older and begins in the spring. For preparation information contact Henry Orth at the Parish Office (816-931-4351). The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available every Saturday from 3:00 - 3:45 p.m. in the chapel of the church (enter by glass door on north side of church) and by appointment at the parish office. Communal Penance Services are offered during Advent and Lent. First Reconciliation preparation begins in September. The Sacrament is celebrated in November. Contact Henry Orth at the Parish Office (816-931-4351) to register for preparation. Infant Baptisms are usually celebrated during one of the Masses on the third weekend of the month. Parents prepare for the sacrament through an interview and a baptism class. Contact Margaret Lima at the Parish Office (816-931-4351) after your child is born to schedule the sessions. Preparation for Catholic high school students and adults is held annually. Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) Adults and children of school age who wish to become Catholic are able to attend weekly sessions for information about the Catholic Church, for guidance, and for preparation to receive the sacraments. Celebration of Anointing of the Sick This sacrament is available to those who are suffering from a serious illness, to those about to have surgery, and to those who have become weaker because of age. One can receive this sacrament individually or at the communal anointing services which take place at the weekend Masses, once in the fall and once in the spring. The Anointing of the Sick used to be called Extreme Unction. This sacrament is beneficial at the beginning of a serious illness and can be repeated periodically as an illness worsens. When a person is near death, one can receive Viaticum, which is Communion accompanied by special prayers for those who are about to die. Please contact Fr. Registered parishioners are invited to contact Margaret Lima at the Parish Office (816-931-4351) at least nine months before your intended wedding date to begin preparation. Preparation includes interviews with Margaret Lima and the priest or deacon performing the ceremony, as well as providing assistance, taking the FOCUS Instrument for Marriage Preparation, and attending an Engaged Encounter or meetings with a marriage preparation couple. Our Lady of the Angels Catholic School Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School Scholarships are available through the Central City School Fund. Applications are available from the School Office. Cafeteria and Parish Hall Rental The Parish Center cafeteria is available for parishioners or non-parishioners to rent for wedding receptions, anniversaries, baptisms, birthdays, or retirements. Approval of the Pastoral Administrator must be given for any other type of event. The Church Hall is available to parishioners only for small gatherings of up to 50 people for such events as showers, birthdays, or anniversaries.
